How can you check when the Linux system was installed?

If a user wants to see the Linux system's installation date, they should apply the following command, which is used on RPM-based Linux distributions.

Here:

  • rpm: It manages RPM packages to install Linux software and collect information about them.
  • -q: It collects information about a specific package.
  • -i: It displays detailed information about the package.
  • basesystem: It is the name of the package.
  • | (Pipe): It connects two commands and sends the output of one command as input to another command.

Output:

Install Date: Mon 12 Aug 2024 10:30:00 AM IST

It does not show the exact installation date of the entire Linux operating system. It shows when the basesystem package was installed.
