What is Elasticity in Cloud Computing?

Elasticity is a feature of a cloud provider that automatically increases or decreases cloud computing resources, such as CPU, RAM, and cloud servers, whenever they are needed.

To understand this, take the following example.

Suppose a website such as Amazon.com offers an 80% to 90% discount on clothes and computer accessories. The offer ends on 25 June at 9:00 PM. Just before the offer ends, many users visit the website simultaneously. In this situation, Elasticity automatically increases cloud computing resources to handle the high traffic.

After the offer ends and traffic returns to normal, Elasticity automatically removes the extra cloud computing resources because they are no longer needed.
